This historical sketch is a most important work of reference containing a very prominent part of HISTORY OF GUJARAT. Inspite of the fact that Gujarat has played a very significant part in the development of Indian Culture, the historians have ignored a detailed study of the ancient history of this very fascinating part of India. For a proper and intelligent study one has to go deeper into the sources of the original accounts of foreign travelers as well as indigenous sources and archaeological accounts. The present study traces the history of Gujarat from the earliest times to the end of Muslim rule. This sketch is mainly based on two Persian works, the Mirat-i-Sikandari and Mirat-i-Ahmadi. These are two most authentic of the accounts on Gujarat and were compiled by men who themselves and their fathers before them, held high positions and also participated in one way or the other in scenes described. The book also refers to the most prominent works available on Gujarat. The book has been out of print for a long time and to meet the needs of students and scholars of Indian History, it is issued in its complete form. It is hoped that the book will go a long way in being useful to all those who have always wanted to have detailed study of the different phases that shaped the HISTORY OF GUJARAT.
