A LIBRARY OF ORIGINAL PERSIAN MANUSCRIPTS ON MEDICAL SCIENCES.
This collection of Persian medical manuscripts, being published in a facsimile form for the first time, should appeal to anyone interested in the history of Persian medicine. Its historical value is due to the fact that the collection covers almost all the classical period during which the Persian language was used to write on medical subjects (beginning of the fifth to the end of the thirteenth century A.H.), and includes the works of the most prominent authors such as: Zarrindast, Islamil Djurdjani Mansur b. Muhammad b. Ahmad, Hadji Zain al-Attar, and Muhammad Arzani needless to add here that the manuscripts themselves are extremely rare and are housed in the museums of some limited number of universities, where the access to them is also quite difficult. The facsimile publication of these manuscripts, therefore, will afford a rare opportunity for the scholars to refer to these original works more readily. The manuscripts have been faithfully rendered in the print form keeping true to the originals as well as the notes, remarks, and comments made thereon The original manuscripts being extremely old and rare are mostly in a very dilapidated state. The restoration of the pages for the facsimile to be made possible has been a very painstaking work for the publishers. But the effort would have been amply rewarded by the ready access to these rare works of medical writing and its development in Persia, by scholars, libraries and medical collections.
