Religion of Islam

The four sources from which the doctrines and precepts of Islam are founded are the Quran, the Sunna, the Ijma and the Qias, whilst the special branch of theology which treats of the interpretation of the principles of these four sources embraces ‘Urn, or positive knowledge, and flqh, or understanding. It is with these aspects of Islamic theology and law that this book is concerned. The chapter headings of this learned work provide a ready summary of its contents. These relate to the Sources or Foundations of Islam; the Doctrines of Islam; the Imamate ; Fiqh, i.e. the religious, ceremonial, civil and moral laws and regulations; and the Sects of Islam. Thus it provides a scholarly approach to the subject whilst many Arabic quotations throughout reinforce the author’s argument.
