Reader Reviews
“This is an idea book, with seemingly endless small-scale designs that can be used alone or in combination. Almost entirely abstract and geometrical, reflecting the antiquity of the source material which is mostly ceramics. The illustrations are black and white, drawn by the author (presumably). The lack of color and the simplified linear drafting encourage the further development and use of the designs without the author getting in the way. Heavy emphasis on material from the Mediterranean area and from Mesopotamia. People who admire archaic Greek geometrical patterning will love this book! Of most use for designers working in flat, two-dimensional styles. Well worth the modest price, so get in there and wallow, guilt-free”. — Reviewed by Abraham Baumgartner, Israel on “goodreads”
“This little volume provides a vast number, and bewildering variety, of authentic decorative designs from Classical Antiquity and earlier from all over the world. Each one is identified, and there is a contents page which helps one home in on the item wanted, along with a page showing the approximate time relation of the various periods represented. One could not have enough projects in a lifetime to drain this resource of its usefulness. — Reviewed by Walter J. Jamieson Jr. on “goodreads”
