The work was designed primarily as a reference tool and a key to the understanding of the terms and terminology employed in the Anglo-Chinese society, inhabiting India, Far East, China, Japan and other countries. The author refers to matters of common parlance such as the derivation and widespread usage of works like Amok and Chop, a consideration of the Confucius and many other items of linguistic interest. Like its famous Anglo-Indian counterpart, Yule and Burnell’s Honbsonjobson, this is a unique work of reference and source of information as well. The work has sold three editions, which is ample proof of its utility to the layman, tourist and to the research student.
