Studies on Rig Vedic Deities

Rig-Veda, as Professor Max Muller rightly said “is the Veda par excellence containing the real theogony of the Hindus and is the oldest authority on the Religious and social institutions of the Hindus”. It may be most superfluous to appraise the reader that the oldest, and, nominally the weightiest authority of the Hindus, for their religion and institutions, are the Vedas of which Rig-Veda is the supreme.
The numerous deities involved in the hymns of the Rigveda comprise celestial, atmospheric, and terrestrial objects of various forms. Even common articles of daily use and various abstract matters (as mind, soul, etc.) have been personified as deities.
In this present series of articles, the author has concentrated only on the deities whose physical nature can be interpreted from the astronomical and meteorological point of view. The book intelligently deals with the complicated issues like-Heaven, Firmament, Earth, celestial sphere, deities connected with planets, stars, Heavenly Dogs, Lunar Asterisms etc., etc.
This book should prove to be of immense value and an indispensable tool in research work.
