Sociology of Literary Taste

Levin Ludwig Schücking was a German scholar of the English language and English literature. He was the major figure of his time in Germany in English studies, as professor at Leipzig University (he was the director of its English Department). His book Die Soziologie der Literarischen Geschmacksbildung (München: Rösl Cie.) won international recognition (English translation: The Sociology of Literary Taste). He was known also for his studies of Old English literature, and Shakespeare.
This pioneering work was included in the series titled, International Library of Sociology and Social Reconstruction edited by Dr. Karl Mannheim, and was instantly acclaimed as a significant contribution to the subject.
