Marcandeya Purana

This volume, published under the Bibliotheca Indica series a hundred and forty years ago, remains the most valuable and perhaps the most faithful presentation of the Marcandeya Purana. The book provides the complete Sanskrit text in two parts – the first in which the Rishi whose name it bears takes scarcely any part, and the second is that in which he is the principal speaker. The former comprises the forty four chapters, the latter consists of ninety three chapte It also contains the section called the Devi-Máhátmya in the second division. The publication of this long-lost work shall be welcomed by all sections of readers connected in any way to the study of Indian religion, its philosophy and traditions.
