It is difficult for those unacquainted with the iconography of the of the Buddhist pantheon to realize the degree of interest that may be attached to even a crude representation of a Buddhist divinity. To the uninitiated the images of these deities are only of value as works of art, or grotesque curios, with their various heads and many arms; but to the initiated, apart from their artistic merit, they furnish an almost inexhaustible fund for research and study. There exist some classic works on the subject written by some of the foremost authorities and stand even today as works of extraordinary scholarship with perennial value. These books are not so easily available or are very hard to find. On consistent demand from the readers and scholars for quite some time, we have now brought together these classics in one easily accessible work.
