His deep interest in the improvement of teaching and learning English for practical purposes was always uppermost. The introduction of the ‘English Teacher’s Training Course’ in Guwahati University was due to his initiative and efforts. His ‘Standard Readers’ for the lower classes of English school were used with good effect for more than a decade in most of the schools in the State. After retirement from service he took to active politics, but it was not long for him to realize that he was not, the stuff the present-day politician are made of. So, he bade good-bye to active politics and turned to freelance journalism, and between times, setting about writing books.
