Adult Education

National Policy on Education laid considerable emphasis on adult education as an instrument of socio-economic transformation. Adult education strategies I India were designed to promote values relevant to India’s common cultural heritage, egalitarianism, democracy, secularism, equality of genders, protection of environment, removal of soci0-economic barriers, observance of small family norm, empowerment of women, creation of awareness on the causes of deprivation and inculcation of scientific temper among its masses. Adult education programme, a sub system of total education system, must contribute to the achievement of these National objectives. In this context the National Literacy Mission identified literacy, social awareness and functionality as the adult education components to promote skill so of literacy, spared understanding about the provisions and proper utilization of resources, ongoing development programmes, technology and tools in the development process by the masses of India. The present treatise is an-depth study of adult education programme. An over view of the evaluation and the history of adult education were also included. Various facets of adult education programmes viz., Social Education, Workers Education, Framers’ Training and Functional Literacy, Non Formal Education and National Adult Education Programme have discussed in detail. The contents of the book provide an in-depth view of adult education in India. The main study attempts to quantify the impact of adult education in the development of literary skills, social awareness and functionality among the clientele representing various implementation agencies such as universities, voluntary associations and government wings.
