Urban Geography

Urban geography is taught as a compulsory part of all geography courses but, surprisingly, there are few texts available and most of these are now outdated. This book outlines and assesses the contribution of geographers to the understanding of the city and urban society. It draws upon concrete example from cities in a number of countries including the USA, and introduce the work of a large number of geographers.

The book covers all the latest developments in geography, including the development of behavioural and political economy perspectives, which are not topics covered in any of he competing texts.

Detailed references are provided throughout so as to direct the reader towards the most useful and accessible supplementary reading material. In this way the book provides a concise statement for those new to the field, as well as lying the foundations for more advanced study in urban geography and planning.
