The Sam-Veda Sanhita

The Same-Veda or Veda of Holy songs, third in the usual order of enumeration ranks next in sanctity and liturgical importance to the Rig-Veda. Along with Atharva-Veda and Yajur-Veda, this forms the weightiest authority of the Hindus for their social and religious institutions.
The Same-Veda Sanhita, complete English translation of which is being laid before the public, is a collection made up of Hymans, portions of Hymns, and detached verses taken mainly from the Rig-Veda, transposed and re-arranged, without reference to their original order, to suit the religious ceremonies in which they were to be employed.
Prof. Griffith, the learned Sanskrit scholar who translated this classic, depended heavily on the great knowledge of scholars of his age like Prof. Steven-son, Wilson, Max-Muller, Benfey, Gottingan and Prof. Lutwig, for their knowledge of the Vedas etc. With a complete English translation of Rig-Veda already published and this translation of Same-Veda now being released, the publishers have a feeling of gratification and feel that these volumes shall prove to be of immense use for the scholars and institutions alike.
