While this work professes to be a catalogue and dictionary of the names used by the Bihar peasant for the things surrounding him in his daily life, yet, the author, who needs no introduction, has attempted to give a description, more or less complete, of that life and its character and incidents. The book is in fact a discursive catalogue. Every work in this book has been collected from the mouths of the people and noted on the spot where it was spoken. So far, therefore, as its contents go, this book may claim to be entirely original and to a certain degree, accurate. Such a work as this is nothing if not accurate, and no ordinary pains have been spared to compass the greatest accuracy possible. No sphere of daily life of the village is left unexplored and the learned author had taken considerable pains to travel from village to village and from district to district to collect all this most wonderful material for the book. The value of his research becomes all the more important and interesting with many illustrations he has incorporated. The book is a gem off a reference work & will be of interest not only to the scholars but the ordinary reader too.
